Editorial Policy
Our goal is simple: pages that help you make a better decision, with numbers you can check.
How we write
- Guides are written for US readers in plain English and focus on the next practical step.
- We cite public sources, such as federal agencies, when we state a specific fact or recommendation, and link to them.
- We don't invent statistics, prices, reviews, testimonials or experiences.
Numbers and calculators
- Repair prices vary widely by location, season and home. We don't publish national price tables unless we can name and verify the source.
- Calculators show their formulas and assumptions. Default prices are clearly labeled as examples, and you are asked to enter your own local prices.
- Every result is labeled as a planning estimate, not a contractor quote.
Review and updates
Each page shows a “Last reviewed” date. We review pages when sources change or readers report a problem, and update that date only when a page was actually reviewed.
Advertising
Ads are kept separate from tools and download buttons and are labeled “Advertisement.” Advertisers have no influence on what we publish.
